Dr. Eugene B. Smith “Gene” December 28, 1931 – April 21, 2015 Dr. Eugene B. Smith “Gene”, 83, of College Station, went to be with his Lord on April 21, 2015. A time for family to receive friends will be from 6pm-8pm on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Hillier Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015; 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church Bryan, 3100 Cambridge Drive, in Bryan, Texas with Pastor Jim Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Aggie Field of Honors. Gene was born on December 28, 1931 in Houston, Texas, and grew up in Nederland, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He moved back to Houston and worked for IBM after his service. He met the love of his life, Altha Hall. They were married on June 22, 1957. Gene became an Associate Professor in the College of Business after earning a Master’s of Science Degree and a Ph. D. from Texas A&M University. Gene and Altha became the proud parents of Kimberly. In 1976 Gene and his family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, where he worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as a Management Analyst. This was a very happy time for the family, where many good memories were made. In 1983 Gene and his family moved back to Aggieland, where he worked for the Texas Agriculture Extension Agency, he retired in 1994. After retirement he enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his friends and family, and traveling with his wife. Gene will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Lee Smith, Sr. and Thelma Fay Whitlow Smith, and his brother Robert Lee Smith Jr. Gene leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Altha Smith; daughter Kim Hord and husband Allen and their daughters Emily and Melissa; brother; Jerry Lynn Smith and wife Judy. He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, friends and family who will miss him dearly. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church Bryan Building Fund.
