Rita Anne Iero January 8, 1937 – April 8, 2015 On April 8th of 2015 at 3:30am, Rita Anne Iero went into the loving arms of our Lord.  Rita was born in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio, to Theodore and Rita McClintock.  Little did she know at the time, but her caring nature toward her younger siblings Ted and Mary Jane would plant the seed for her career in nursing later on. Rita spent most of her childhood growing up in North Canton, Ohio.  She attended college at Mount Union and returned to Canton to enter nursing school at Aultman Hospital.  It would be there at Aultman that a love affair of a lifetime would begin. She met Dr. Domenico Iero from Reggio Calabria, Italy.  They were married on July 11, 1959 at St. Joseph’s Church in Canton, Ohio. Rita and Domenico spent the first year of their marriage in Italy.  During that time, she learned Italian perfectly and also mastered the art of Italian cooking from our Nonna. Realizing that medicine in America was so far advanced from that in Italy, Rita and Mimmo traveled back to Canton and raised four children. The Iero family would travel yearly to Reggio Calabria to spend their summers with their many relatives.  Once the children were old enough, Rita returned to nursing in her husband’s office. They worked together until he retired in 1994, moving to Galveston, Texas.  Rita Anne and Mimmo were then able to enjoy their children and 12 grandchildren. For their 50th wedding anniversary, they renewed their vows at St Anthony Catholic Church in Bryan, Texas. Rita lost the love of her life in April, 2010, but living close to her children provided her the support she needed to carry on.  She lived a full life, always giving of herself to others.  Our mom was kind, compassionate, brilliant, and just amazing.  Her passing has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled.  Rita is survived by her children, Tony Iero and wife Emily of North Canton, Ohio, Phillip Iero, DDS, MD and wife Melissa of Bellaire, Texas, Joseph Iero, MD and wife Kimberly of College Station, Texas, and Marisa Beckley and husband Stephen of Katy, Texas. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Domenic, Anthony, Isabella, Lilia, Sofia, Alexa, Joseph, Giancarlo, Alessandro, Giacomo, Ashton, and Gabriela. A Rosary will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, April 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 507 East 26th Street in Bryan. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum.
