Brenda Lee (Sims) Watson
July 24, 1953 – August 23, 2015
Brenda Lee (Sims) Watson, 62, was promoted to heaven on August 23, 2015. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, August 27 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillier Funeral Home chapel in College Station, Texas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 26, from 5-7 p.m. at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station. Officiating will be Pastor Brian Hallam.
Brenda was born July 24, 1953, to Wadfur “Speedy” and William H. (Bill) Lee in Amherst, Texas. Growing up Brenda lived in Texas and Louisiana, graduating from Parkway High School in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1971. She received her BA in Journalism from Louisiana Tech in 1975, after which she moved to College Station to work on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ. In 1999 Brenda received her Master’s Degree (MS) in Distance Learning (EHRD) from Texas A&M University, much to the delight of her Aggie friends. Although they joked she was now an Aggie complete with senior ring, she remained a Louisiana Tech Bulldog at heart.
Brenda’s father was the state editor of the Shreveport Journal, and she had a natural aptitude for writing and journalism. Gifted with extraordinary talents of wit, humor and creativity, she displayed a joyful approach to everything she did.
Brenda’s inquisitive and bright disposition lent itself to many professional accomplishments throughout her life, including publishing her own Christian newspaper, working as the Director of Communications for the Texas A&M University System, and being the founder and owner of Sherlock Realtors with her husband, Wayne Watson and best friend, Virginia (Ginjie) Kettler in 2005.
Brenda’s life was built on her strong Christian faith, which never wavered from the time she accepted Jesus at the age of 7. Her real pleasure in life was helping others achieve the same. There will be a grand reunion in heaven because of all those Brenda’s love won to Christ.
Brenda had a unique ability to “cut to the chase” and strategize business ventures. Her business partners appreciated her keen mind. She was always up for a challenge.
Brenda deeply loved her family and her mother’s Mississippi Delta roots. In the summers growing up she would visit her Delta relatives as often as possible. She loved getting special treats at her grandfather Mike Isom’s general store in Sunflower, Mississippi.
Brenda will be best remembered for her love for Jesus and people, her wit, humor, and positive, fun nature. Her joy was well-known and contagious. She was loved by all who knew her, and will be deeply missed.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Watson; brother Mark H. Lee and wife Jeanne of Conroe; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Mike Jones; sister and brother-in-law Kimberly Ann and Ben England of Bossier City, Louisiana. She is also survived by her stepsons Keith Watson and wife Jamie, Kevin Watson and wife Laura; five grandchildren, five nephews, one niece, and her beloved dogs Gracie Jo and Dixie Belle.
Memorials may be made to New Heights Church, P. O. Box 3369, Bryan, TX 77805.
