Daughter, Wife, Mother, Teacher. Helen Chadwick Booth Tenney was the best of all four. She was born to Fred and Claye Booth on October 20, 1934 in Harlingen, Texas. Being a “war brat,” she experienced many moves throughout her childhood and graduated from San Benito High School in 1952. She found the love of her life, Warren “Scooter” Tenney and married him on the day of her graduation from the University of Texas. She continued her education and obtained her Masters of Early Childhood Studies from the University of St. Thomas. Helen was a dedicated teacher for 28 years. She mostly taught gifted/talented kindergarten, but also volunteered as a Sunday school teacher. She was active in the Congress of Houston Teachers and held several offices. She also led Cub Scout and Girl Scout Troops and was active in the Presbyterian church. Outside of teaching, Helen’s passions included sewing, quilting, needlework and most importantly, family. She enjoyed helping to organize many family reunions. After living in Houston for many years, she retired with Warren to Spring Branch, Texas in 2000, where she was active in The Friends of the Library, a quilting group, garden club, a bridge group, and a book club. A favorite activity for many years was the twice yearly weekend bridge parties with friends from Houston, some of whom had also moved away from the city to retire. She loved to travel in Canada, Mexico, and over the United States. Helen passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Hillier Funeral Home, 4080 State Highway 6 South in College Station, Texas with John Collier officiating. Helen will be remembered and greatly missed by her husband Warren D. Tenney; sons, Scott A Tenney and David W. Tenney; daughter, Nancy (Tenney) Adams; grandchildren, Brandon Adams and Brent Adams; and many cherishes friends and extended family.
