If the angels and heavenly hosts need an accompanist, they received a fine organist and Godly woman in Eula Mae Carr Huffman, who died on October 26, 2015, at age 100. This spunky, independent woman was the only living original member of Cavitt Church of Christ in Bryan. Miss Eula Mae was a fixture in the church family that now misses her dearly as they mark her passing and remember her devoted service. Born in Kemp (Kaufman County), Texas on May 30, 1915, Eula Mae was welcomed into a family of six children, including her sister, Mary Alice Miller. Her parents, James Elmo Carr and Mary Elizabeth Porter Carr worked as a Kemp farmer (who was later employed by the Dallas School District after the family moved there in 1924) and a homemaker, respectively. Throughout her childhood and as a young adult, Eula Mae loved music and learned to play both the guitar and the organ. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family & friends, and, to watch Aggie football & the Dallas Cowboys. Cavitt Church of Christ members describe her as a “grand lady” who knew what she wanted, confident in her own abilities as she was self-taught and worked as a Dental assistant before she became a Doctor’s assistant. Eula was extremely independent, lived alone and drove herself around town even in her advanced age. Indeed, family and friends were ready to console her when her driver’s license stood to expire earlier this year, but to their great astonishment, Eula Mae’s license was renewed! While she surely rejoiced at this news, Eula Mae was also upset that her license would only remain valid for another two years. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Joe Huffman, in 2007 whose birth marked the greatest day of her life; what a joyous reunion they will have! Relatives surviving Eula Mae include her sister, Mary Alice Miller, her nephews Jimmy (Sherry) Carr, Allan (Lucille) Parrish, Johnny (Sharon) Miller and Wayne Dalton, as well as her niece, Leta Beth (Mike) Snell, and of course, her large extended family and network of close, church family. Rest in peace, Miss Eula Mae, and go forth with the promise of Ruth and the blessing of Proverbs in the Old Testament: “And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman,” whose “price is far above rubies.” Eula Mae’s Life Celebration will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Eula Mae’s final resting place will be at Bryan City Cemetery.
