Tyler Connelly Edwards
Our beloved son, brother, grandson and friend, Tyler, passed away on November 18, 2015. Although he was only twenty-four years old at the time of his death, he lived deliberately and achieved great things.
Tyler was a New Year’s Day baby, born six-and-a-half weeks early in Portland, Oregon, on January 1, 1991; in a hurry to enter this world, he never stopped moving. From childhood, Tyler enjoyed sports and outdoor activities like rock climbing, camping, and hunting. He was an eager Boy Scout and race car driver. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed discovering a variety of global philosophies, both ancient and modern.
Expanding on his youthful love of both the outdoors and literature, Tyler explored his passion for outdoor adventure education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Sciences (RPTS) from Texas A&M University, from which he graduated in 2015. During college, he worked alternatively as an outdoor adventure supervisor and trip guide, a rock climbing and ropes course instructor, a scholarship and grant winner, as well as a member of the TAMU RPTS REPS leadership organization. Additionally, from January to May 2014, Tyler enjoyed serving as an Outdoors Adventures Intern in the Department of Athletics at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Tyler’s professional certifications include: Wilderness First Responder, SOLO; Wilderness First Aid, NOLS WMA; Swiftwater Rescue, ACA; Divemaster Candidate and Basic, Advanced, Enriched Air (Nitrox), Rescue SCUBA, PADI; CPR/AED, First Aid and Lifeguard Certificates, American Red Cross.
Upon completion of his Bachelor degree, Tyler was employed as a technician—and was recently promoted to supervisor—within the Texas Veterinarian Diagnostic Laboratory at Texas A&M University. His love for animals and his skills as a technician made his difficult work in the necropsy lab meaningful as his service furthered the lab’s efforts in diagnosing and managing domestic and wild animal diseases.
Tyler’s brilliant, enduring spirit will be missed by his mother Laura Welsh (and husband Doug), his father Jeff Edwards (and wife Theresa), his sister Elena, step-sister Katherine Scarmardo (and husband Chris, along with with Tyler’s niece, Olivia), step-brother John Welsh, step-sisters Jessica and Michele Greene, grandparents Bill and Mary Kay Edwards and Chloe and Virgil Wise.. Also mourning Tyler is his girlfriend, Elena Robideau, and many other friends.
Visitation for Tyler Edwards will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station, followed immediately by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm.
The family requests any donations made in Tyler’s memory be made to your favorite charity.
