Carolyn “Cookie” Matheson February 23, 1938 – December 22, 2014 Carolyn Lee “Cookie” Matheson, 76, of Bryan, went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 22, 2014. A time for family to receive friends will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 E. 29th Street in Bryan. Catholic Funeral Rites will begin at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home with Father Ed Kucera Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Mausoleum. Carolyn was born on February 23, 1938 to Johnnie and Dorothy (Bueker) Holick in Omaha, Nebraska. Cookie went to Allen Academy and attended Stephen F. Austin High school where she was a Majorette. She went on to attend the University of North Texas in Denton and earned a degree in English. Cookie taught high school English in the Dallas area for several years. Her parents owned Holick’s Boot Shop, where Cookie worked during high school. After retiring from teaching, she returned to Bryan to help take care of her mother and went back to work at Holick’s Boot Shop. She also volunteered at the Juvenile Detention center teaching English. Cookie was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed traveling, especially in the motorhome and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville. She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Dorothy Holick and sisters, Kathe Dudley and Billie June Reece. Cookie leaves behind her husband, John Dewayne Matheson of Bryan; daughters, Cathe Abercrombie and husband, Melvin of Greenville and Susan Ference and husband, Stephen of Keller; grandchildren, Susan Renee Brown, John Chapa, Stefani Padilla, Julie Ference, and Jenna Ference; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Brown, Alisha Padilla, Joshua Padilla, and Lyndam Chapa and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Cookie will also be missed by Rusty, her beloved Pomeranian. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice Brazos Valley and the nurses at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan for their wonderful care.
